Oil is already above $100, so a recession is already happening & could turn into a far worse depression for the world. The bond market is another disaster for the US. When it goes above 5%, the US can't pay & knows that they are in trouble.

Iran has already identified which side each Persian Gulf state is on. Oman & Qatar are currently neutral, but the UAE is siding with the US & Israel and will treated accordingly. For the US to invade Iran with ground forces would be a disaster, no matter how you look at it. They discussed the possibilities of trying to invade some of the small islands in the Straight of Hormuz area & all of those would have serious problems for the US. The Iranians have a huge army that is very well trained & lethal. Don't forget that drone warfare & missiles is a lot different than in the old days when tanks were used.

The US & Israel have already assassinated all of Iran's decision makers who were interested in a possible negotiated settlement. Now we are dealing with hardliners who believe that this can only be decided on the battlefield. This is an existential fight for Iran where they want all US forces out of the Persian Gulf so that they can no longer cause trouble for Iran. The Iranians are willing to die for their cause. The US military bases are already being destroyed along with critical radar. The US & Israel are running out of defensive resources.

The resistance of Hezbollah in Iraq has already been reconstituted & is easily destroying Israeli Merkova tanks. The US is effectively kicked out of Iraq. Iranian drones & missiles already have air superiority over Israel & can cause a lot more damage. The best thing Trump could do would be to just pull all military assets out of the Persian Gulf & agree to Iran's demands, yet this is a defeat that too humiliating for the US to swallow at the moment.
