Project Sentinel is a group of like-minded men and women dedicated to the idea that our rights must be protected at all times against the encroachment of ever-grasping government and that the best way to ensure that protection is to educate the citizenry on our rights, the foundations of our rights, the reason our rights resonated with men and women down through the ages and how, if viewed in the clear light of day, they still resonate as fiercely. While some in government and politics today assert – without any reasoning – that all our rights have limits, the men and women of Project Sentinel assert that government, being a creation of the people and a servant of the people, has no authority to arbitrarily limit our rights. Rather, we believe that our many rights, both the enumerated and the unenumerated, remain whole except in those very special cases of place and time, and as clearly understood and accepted by the common man, where limits may be necessary for the common good. In the vast preponderance of cases our rights remain wholly ours and Project Sentinel takes it as its charge to defend that concept in regard to all our rights at all times.

Project Sentinel insists that the federal bureaucracy be aware that it is a servant, not a master, that We The People are endowed with a broad range of rights and privileges and that the bureaucracy on the other hand, is provide with strictly limited powers to carry out limited tasks, and we stand ready to guard those rights against a bloated, power-hungry bureaucracy.

To that end, we will engage in public debate, in research and publication of our findings, in writing and speaking to all Americans to help them gain greater awareness of the nature of their rights and the necessity to resist every effort of government at any level, but particularly the federal government, to limit or bind our exercise of all of our rights and freedoms. We will be prepared to support, and where necessary engage in legal actions and Congressional engagement to preserve our rights and limit the scope and reach of government. We will insist upon a national security policy that fully engages Congress and its sole authority to declare war, protect the individual against the ever expanding intrusions on privacy and private information, educate the populace via the full spectrum of communications technologies to counter the manipulations and disinformation of media, Big Tech and others. And we at Project Sentinel will promote a sane, data-based approach to the environment and energy that strengthens America, ensures her independence, and protects the well-being, the incomes and the rights and liberties of the average American.

Project Sentinel is a non-governmental organization founded on Constitutional concepts and policy prescription to advocate and establish practical solutions to 21st century challenges. By returning to the ideals of the American Revolution that created our Republic, Project Sentinel will do the following:

  • Highlight the importance of the founding of the Constitution and the need to return to the concepts established by the Founding Fathers through education, publications, and events.
  • Counter the encroachment of “woke” aka Marxist ideology that is now pervasive in our education system, law enforcement, and national security establishment through investigation, reporting on findings of investigative activity, and advocacy of whistleblowers who witness.
  • Counter federal government encroachment of Constitutional Rights, with special focus on the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 10th amendments, through legal/court-driven actions, Congressional engagement, and advocacy of new Constitutional amendments to preserve the separation of powers and basic structure of the Republic. When necessary, engage in full spectrum investigations of government overreach, abuse, and violations of the Constitution and the law.
  • Focus on national security from the perspective of inclusion of Congress in the decisions to employ military force and increase the accountability of action by the executive branch on all intelligence, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and military operations. Work to establish legislation and effective oversight, resulting in observable changes to process and structure.
  • Sustaining and enhancing the right of freedom of individuals and small businesses to protect and understand the value of their virtual avatar and how to recover sovereignty of their identity and data. Establish solutions that benefit and monetize the individual, removing the ability of corporations to abuse and deny both constitutional and financial benefits.
  • Using education and the spectrum of available communication platforms, counter media organizations, big tech, and corporate controlled social media, to challenge their ability to manipulate the truth and warp the American’s public perception of reality and counter their relentless denial of objective truth.
  • Promote practical environmental solutions and energy-independence through identification of technology, techniques, and industrial initiatives that bolster the American individual’s right to strengthen our national security, technology innovation, energy-independence and serve to vigorously defend America, our allies, and our collective interests.

In Conclusion: The Preamble to the Constitution summarizes the overall focus of Project Sentinel: We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

People don’t change, as a friend reminded me just the other day. 800 years ago the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Moscow wanted more land, buffer zones between them and “others.” Kiev soon became part of the Russian “buffer zone.”

But, Russia lost Kiev (and Ukraine) in 1991; they want it back.

In 2014, Putin occupied Crimea; the West said very little. Poor Ukraine; it’s in an unenviable position: the heart of Russia to her east and north east, the Russian client-state Belarus to the north, and the Russian dominated Black Sea to the South.

Since 2014 Russia has been engaged in a multi-disciplinary war – what has come to be known has “hybrid war” – against Ukraine, focused on eastern Ukraine. This includes a little bit of everything, to include a low-grade insurgency, information war, cyber war, twisting the law (“lawfare”), etc.

Five weeks ago Russian Coast Guard vessels fired on and captured three Ukrainian navy vessels (two patrol boats and a tug) that were moving from Odessa to the Ukrainian port of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine, on the Sea of Azov, via the Kerch Strait. The attack left 6 Ukrainians wounded.

Several points are relevant to the US.

First, the Russians want Ukraine. They consider it theirs. And they want their buffer zones. Tsar Vlad I understands that.

It’s worth remembering that Ukraine surrendered 1,240 nuclear weapons in 1994 based on a guarantee from President Clinton that the US would protect their independence from Russia even as they (Ukraine) disarmed. When Russia made the move against Crimea in 2014, President Obama chose not to honor that guarantee.

Without those weapons, there’s little Ukraine can do militarily to stop the Russians, if the Russians choose to act. Could the US provide them military support if it chose to? Certainly. And certain weapons (anti-tank weapons, mines, etc.) would make a Russian invasion costly. Other considerations – intelligence support, aid in cyber warfare, air defense – might also be provided. But the question that must be asked is: to what end?

There’s also the question of what to do about Eastern Europe, where we have treaty allies who would call on us if attacked. Ukraine is not a US ally. Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and others are.

Guarantees – and failures to honor guarantees – have consequences. Clinton guaranteed Ukrainian independence in order to convince them to surrender their nuclear weapons. Then Libya traded away their weapons program in 2003. And then President Clinton’s wife attacked Libya in 2011. These points weren’t lost on North Korea, and they drew the logical conclusion: nuclear weapons matter.

Others noticed that Russia got away with seizing Crimea, particularly China. (Neither Russia nor China are terribly concerned with what we think is “the right thing to do.”) Russia wants Ukraine, they intend to take it back. China wants the South China Sea, they are talking control of it. China also wants hegemony over all of SE Asia. And Taiwan. And the US out of the Western Pacific. And control of the Indian Ocean. And eventual world domination…

And those who think the leadership in Beijing, if we’re just nice to them and give them sweet business deals, will be nice and behave like us? They’re wrong.

China has also learned that hybrid war is a potent tool, particularly for those with few morals. China is already engaged in what can only be described as it’s own version of hybrid war in the South China Sea, South East Asia and Africa: aggressive maneuvers against fishing boat, building dams and challenging water rights, shady business deals that leave smaller nations deeply in debt, building gulags for its own minorities, making claims against islands held by Japan, the Philippines, Korea, hostile cyber activities, lawfare, etc.

Clausewitz defined war as a continuation of politics with other means. We have two great power rivals who understand that and are already at war with us. They’re using every tool available to achieve their aims. It’s time we wake up and realize war has already begun and start prioritizing accordingly.

That means making hard choices, identifying our vital interests, and identifying those things which are, and are not, worth the lives our troops.

But what it really means is this: the return of Great Power confrontations. China wants, Russia wants. Both are willing to use means other than politics to reach their goals. They are challenging the US. We need to defend our interests.
