Instead, the US ships half of its rare earth ore to China for processing & half to Australia. It was obvious how China used their rare earth dominance in a 2010 dispute with Japan, yet the US still didn't take this seriously. China has also vertically integrated their entire rare earth supply chain & has focused on graduating more than enough STEM students & support manufacturing people to maintain & expand this entire rare earth supply chain.
